The group phase of Champions League 2009/2010 reaches crunch point. Several teams are safely through - Chelsea, Bordeaux, Man Utd, Lyon, Sevilla, Porto and Arsenal - but there are some big clubs struggling to make the knockout phase. Matchday 5 will be crucial in deciding who makes the cut. Champions League Betting - Big Sides Fighting For Survival
Several big sides are famous an embarassing early exit from the Champions League as the 2009/10 competition continues to throw up surprise results. Liverpool's fate is out of their hands in Group E. The 2005 winners must win their remaining two fixtures, starting with their game in Hungary against Debreceni on November 24th, hope that Fiorentina fail to beat Lyon then beat the Italians at Anfield.
Similarly, German giants, Bayern Munich, must beat Maccabi Haifa at the Allianz Arena on matchday 4, then hope that Juventus don't do the same against the French, who clearly have little motivation other than to top group A. Group F has one of the interesting dynamics with defending Champions, Barcelona, currently third behind Inter Milan and Rubin Kazan. Inter and Barca meet at the Nou Camp on November 24th in game that could see the loser facing elimination. Real Madrid and AC Milan also have work to do to qualify from Group C, with Marseille breathing down their necks. The game between the Ligue 1 side and the Rossoneri at the San Siro on matchday 5 will be key to that process.
